Microsoft Technical Fellow Alex Kipman confirms that it's a significant part of their AR strategy. He said that Microsoft could not lead a new medium of computing without addressing the consumer market. Kipman didn’t give any kind of roadmap for an eventual launch of a consumer HoloLens, but it’s likely not going to happen for a while. Link
