Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is now also the company's chair, becoming the first person since Bill Gates to hold both roles at the same time.
Nadella, who has been Microsoft's CEO since 2014 (replacing Steve Balmer), was elected chairman by Microsoft's board. The last person to hold both positions at the same time was Bill Gates, before he stepped down as CEO in 2000. Gates stepped down as chair in 2014, and left Microsoft's board in 2020 to focus on his "philanthropic priorities". Nadella replaces John Thompson as chair Link
