Amazon announced Echo devices will support Matter, an open-source standard that makes smart home devices cross-compatible.
Smarthome devices that support Matter will work seamlessly with each other. So a smart lighting system will work whether you have Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant. Matter uses wi-fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Thread (a mesh networking protocol) for interoperability between different smart-home devices. Only Amazon's first-gen Echo speakers will not get the upgrade. Apple, Google, Samsung SmartThings, and over 170 other companies are also working on Matter, which is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2021. Link
